One of our highly recommended stops is La Piedra del Penol as the views from the summit is breathtaking. You can buy tours from Tripadvisor or any other reputable site. You have to buy a ticket and climb over 740 steps to reach the viewing tower on top of this monolithic rock, but the sweeping 360º views of Guatape Lake and the surrounding El Penol region are well worth the price of admission. There are also restaurants at both the base and the summit. If you're already in Guatape town, it's a short taxi ride or an easy half-hour walk from the square. For travelers coming from Medellin, La Piedra is a two-hour bus trip away; booking a day trip is often a cheap and convenient option. Make sure you bring your walking shoes!

La Piedra del Peñol

Just a short few years ago a region in Medellin called La Comuna 13 which includes various numbers of neighborhoods was considered to be one of the most dangerous places in the country. Now the tables have turned and La Comuna 13 has been ranked as the top tourist destination in Medellin thanks to its street food, graffiti, comedians, panoramic views, and selfie ops. A very safe place for tourist to visit now as the locals know their economy thrives with tourism.

An escape from the urban jungle of Medellín is only a gondola ride away. Arvi Park (Parque Arvi) and Piedras Blancas Park (Parque Piedras Blancas), neighboring parks in the mountainous countryside east of the city, are crisscrossed by hiking trails and dotted with lakes, scenic lookout points, and wildlife museums.
